This is true, however formal should distinguish or mean something - like keeping the nipples covered. Even a low buck restaurant requires shirts , the drive thru would be another story. When going topless is equal for both sexes, i am sure your suggestion will get more consideration. When public pools are topless for both sexes the formals may become top optional......... society has a long way to go before these changes will become accepted ...... I hope I live to see these changes become mainstream

I've been to many formal events (my avatar is at one such occasion, with a light shawl round my shoulders) and no way would I open myself to ridicule, not only at the event but for years afterwards, by going topless. You don't seem to take this into consideration, which makes me think you haven't been to many, if any at all. Any woman baring herself would be hurriedly shown the door and never invited to any more events. It would be committing social suicide.
I'm not afraid to show my breasts but in the right situation, such as everybody does it on Mediterranean or on the Canary Islands beaches, including me. The first place I did it was Lanzarote, and I was terrified but nobody blinked an eye, apart from admiring looks!

 

I agree that a change of attitude from the public, the event organisers, the police and the over eighteen cruise industry would have to take place after Covid has finished, if it ever does, before topless evening and cocktail dresses were accepted - but is this REALLY not possible?

Most people thought that gay marriages were not possible, especially considering that buggary (the official name for men practising homesexual sex) was punishable by a prison sentence in the UK prior to the 1950's - but now in 28 countries worldwide a Google search has revealed that more than 100,000 gay couples have officially married since 2014!

Is the acceptance of a woman wearing a pretty evening dress with her breasts exposed really so far away in these enlightened times?

By the way - to answer your accusation regarding my own situation, I have risked baring my breasts at a FORMAL event in an evening dress only three times to date because of the natural prejudice you mention - once at my husband's annual company dinner dance, and twice on a cruise formal night dance (but initially wearing a pashmina covering them and only later in the evening baring them after most prudes had gone to bed) because YES, I WAS worried about being thrown out but. like gay sex being NOW accepted in many Western countries after being previously ostracised, I am hoping that eventually it WILL be accepted - after all, would it be as big a change of attitude that gay marriage has been?

I am not advocating a mass exposing of mammaries, and certainly not the mass naked exposure you mention on the beaches of Europe where much more than breasts are often exposed. I am not inciting murder and mayhem, only the opportunity to reveal my breasts in a pretty evening or cocktail dress, and hope a few more enlightened women will have the courage to do the same.

I would not show my breasts at an event if no one else was. While I do have an exhibitionist side, I’m also very proper, and there is a time and a place for nudity. In a hotel window, sure! At the RCMP formal ball, um no.
